Aquatic Ecosystems
The Bullitt Foundation is in the process of revising its grantmaking priorities and procedures. Please follow these directions even if you have applied for or received a Bullitt Foundation grant in the past.
To determine your eligibility for a Bullitt Foundation grant, please complete our Proposal Inquiry form, answering all questions completely but with the understanding that brevity is appreciated. A program officer will review your entries and may contact you to discuss the idea in more detail.

The Foundation strives to protect, restore, and maintain the region’s aquatic resources and ecosystems, from the pure water of high mountain streams to biologically rich marine environments.
Objectives

Promote public policies protecting wild rivers and natural stream flows, including development of water conservation incentives, mitigation of hydroelectric dam impacts, and reform of outdated water use policies.

Strengthen compliance with administrative rules and environmental laws intended to protect aquatic ecosystems and at-risk species.

Halt pollution of public waters from point and non-point sources.

Defend rivers, wetlands, estuaries, and marine ecosystems from the adverse impacts of development and unsustainable commercial and recreational uses.

Protect the integrity of groundwater supplies and aquifer recharge areas.
Tactics

Conduct oversight of agency actions and pursue appeals or litigation when necessary.

Foster effective environmental coalitions and issue campaigns.

Build broad grassroots constituencies and powerful alliances in support of environmental protection.

Develop effective public messages and cultivate print and broadcast media coverage of key issues.
- Support economic incentives for practices that sustain ecosystem health.
